Do what you love, and love what you do

Cliché, trite, stale phrase, isn’t it? But it’s truer than belief, especially when you work as a social media specialist, providing recommendations to business owners, presidents and CEOs.

Mind you, I am still an undergraduate student and being a student often conjures up a few specific visuals: dead-end job and being bored out of your skull. Lucky for me, I can humbly say that I love my jobs.

As a marketing communications management student, I am studying the likes of consumer behaviour, marketing psychology, sales techniques, advertising, statistics, and research. I’ve always had a known passion for branding and print advertisement; the colours, fonts, and messages attempting to be conveyed. In contrast, this past year had me working remotely for a company doing online analysis of company websites, social media implementation and blogging. And that’s when I fell in love. The ease I have in putting on a business owner’s voice and sharing messages about products and services, to blog articles and opinions has admittedly made me feel like I don’t work. Ever. Now don’t get me wrong, there are days which can be a challenge, deadlines to meet and improvement summaries to write. But each day I wake up ready to step up to the plate and do my best to ensure the business’ success.

As if that wasn’t enough, today got even sweeter (with a cherry on top). A family friend of mine who owns a successful beauty distributor contacted me looking for a social media consultant, website editor and blogger. The opportunity to do everything that I love all related to the field of fashion and beauty; too good to be true. It’s pretty fresh, so pardon the giddiness. Expect an update in the next few weeks regarding the new position, and remember positivity and doing what you love will only cultivate happiness.
